I deleverd our second child a baby girl weighing 5 lbs 15oz while living in base housing my lowest weight baby out of three children. shortly after delivering our 2nd baby with in weeks my health severly declined, I could hardly walk or change a diaper symptoms, severe joint pain, severe stiffness, weight loss, mental detereation, severve pain . My illness was unexplained while living in base. my husband got a humanitarian medical transfer to camp pendleton on my behalf. medical problems uterine fibroids tumors, hysterectomy 38 yrs old, joint pain,stiffness, choric fatige fibromyaligia, arthritis, gallbladder removed 37 yr old. my illness carried on into camp pendleton it lasted severe for 6 years never with a true explnation as to what it was. I had a abruption of the placenta at 36.5 weeks at the Naval Hospital which resulted in fetal death.  I subsequently had 5 miscarriages after that.  I left Lejeune in 1985, then became pregnant Aug 86 and delivered May 87 with a healthy baby boy while in Beaufort, SC. He had ADHD, OCD, ODD. Georgena Massingill is the Daughter of Richard Massingill Sr. U.S.M.C. and his then wife Monna.  The couple lived at Camp Lejeune, following Richards return from duty in Vietnam; they occupied base housing continuously for two years prior to the conception of their daughter Georgena.  Specifically they lived at camp housing at Knox, Midway and Tarawa Terrace.  This two year period would include the conception and first trimester of the child’s life before delivery. During this period the family relied entirely on the tap water from this area as it was assumed safe.  Georgena was delivered at the Naval Air station located in Albany, Georgia on January 24, 1971.  Six weeks after delivery Georgena began having health problems.  Thickening of skin, rashes, and breathing problems began.  She was taken to doctors on base and frequent trips to emergency rooms.  Other problems were revealed as Georgena grew older and passed through the normal phases of development.  At approximately 18 months of age she began dragging her right leg.  Doctors could offer no explanation.  At the age of 8 the right side of her face showed paralysis. Learning disabilities later developed.  By Junior High school she sought medical attention for pain in her back and hips.  By high school fluid was accumulating in her joints.  Frequent Asthma attacks were the norm.  She began having episodes of feeling hot and faint.  Sometimes these episodes would be followed by vomiting and diarrhea, and sometimes by a loss of consciousness.  As time went on her mother would called by paramedics to meet them in emergency rooms where vital signs would be unstable for no apparent reason.  Specialists were consulted in Cardiology, Neurology, Pulmonologist Gastronologist ect. but diagnosis was elusive, generalized terms were used fibromyalgia, arthritic.  Two nodules found and on the liver that are also unexplained Cystic ovaries resulted in a Hysterectomy at 31.  Life has been reduced to ups and downs; Oxygen levels drop dramatically during sleep, vomiting sometimes occurs during sleep, and sleep might come for extended periods of time.  Painful boils come in cycles. At the age of 38 Georgena continues to experience sever skin conditions, sleep apnea, Fibromyalgia, severe boils, autonomic immune disorders and Arthritis.  These health issues have persisted continuously and uninterrupted to this day.  Gainful employment and health insurance were not a possibility.  Georgena’s parents Richard Massingill and Monna divorced when she was about 3.  Monna relocated to St. Petersburg Florida where they live today.   Georgena has applied for disability benefits and is currently unable to work due to these health problems.
